PU shuttlers return after winning silver medal

Panjab University badminton team (Men & Women) brought laurels to the city by winning silver medal in both categories in the All India Intervarsity Badminton Championship held at Dibrugarh, Assam from November 20 to November 22.

Panjab University badminton team (Men & Women) brought laurels to the city by winning silver medal in both categories in the All India Intervarsity Badminton Championship held at Dibrugarh, Assam from November 20 to November 22.

The university achieved the feat after a gap of five years in the women’s category and eight years in the men’s category. Oscar Bansal and Pankaj Nathani were unbeaten during the whole tournament in singles. They defeated ranked players like Aditya Elongo, Alwin and Shankar Gopan in the championship. Ravi also defeated Vijay Anand of Tamil Nadu in three games in semi finals.

In the final, Panjab University men’s team lost 2-3 to Calicut University. Panjab University team managed to hold Calicut University till fourth game before they lost in the final game.

The girls’ team lost to Bangalore University in the final. The team was accompanied by S Mahajan, coach, Panjab University.
