Pakistan postpones field hockey after India out

Pakistan Hockey Federation secretary Asif Bajwa says the decision by the IHF is 'painful'.

Pakistan has postponed next week’s three-team field hockey tournament after the Indian Hockey Federation refused to participate due to security concerns.

Pakistan Hockey Federation secretary Asif Bajwa says the decision by the IHF is not only “painful” for the people of Pakistan but for the lovers of sport around the world.

Bajwa says he was assured by the Pakistan government that foolproof security will be provided to the teams in Lahore during the April 9-13 tournament in which Malaysia was also participating.

Major international teams have stayed away from Pakistan since gunmen attacked the Sri Lanka cricket team bus at Lahore in March 2009.
