Nayar misses out on double ton

One week after scoring his maiden Ranji Trophy double hundred against Rajasthan,Abhishek Nayar came within 9 runs of repeating the feat in almost identical manner before a rush of the blood to the head did his partner in.

Just as in the Rajasthan game, where he had scored 243,Nayar was batting with the No.11,as Mumbai were chasing 635. But unlike in the last match, where his junior partner was happy at the non-striker’s end, tailender Ankit Chavan decided go after the Karnataka bowlers himself, hitting eight fours en route to 44-ball 32 before succumbing while going for a cover drive. Nayar was left stranded at 191 as Mumbai folded up for 441 194 runs short.

Opener KB Pawan and number three batsman G Sathish both registered half centuries as Karnataka,in their second innings, scored 147 for three before play was called off.

Brief scores: Karnataka 635 for 9 decl & 147/3 (KB Pawan 57,G Satish 56) vs Mumbai 441 (Abhishek Nayar not out 191,Rohit Sharma 64; V Kumar 4/104,S Binny 3/27,A Mithun 2/100) Karnataka 3,Mumbai 1
