Azhar makes contradictory statements on Dhoni’s Test captaincy

"Team India's performance will definitely be better in the coming days," says Azharuddin.

Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin today made contradictory statements when questioned what he felt about Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s captaincy in Test matches.

While Azhar termed Dhoni a “suitable captain” in Tests during an interaction with the media in Lohardaga,he made a totally opposite claim when he spoke to reporters in Ranchi where he said that current captain should step down from hot seat in the longer version.

“Dhoni is a good player and worthy for captaincy. The time has not come for a change in captaincy of Team India,” Azharuddin said, when reporters in Lohardaga asked him on Dhoni’s performance Test matches.

But in Ranchi, his views on Dhoni was just the opposite when he told reporters that Dhoni is “unsuitable” to lead the side in Test cricket and that his performance in longer version hasn’t been good.

“Team India’s performance will definitely be better in the coming days,” Azharuddin said in Lohardaga.

He dismissed suggestions from a section of cricket fraternity about likes of Sachin Tendulkar,Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman stating that it would be their call. He also wished luck for Sachin Tendulkar to complete his 100th international century.

“Sachin’s 99th was a beautiful century. His 100th will come soon,” Azhar, whose Test career stopped at 99 matches said.
