Authorities in Greece say all fires in greater Athens have been put out or confined to small areas.
The fires burned 21,000 hectares (51,890 acres) of pine forest,olive grove,brush and farmland. The fire department says fires were all contained by early Wednesday,but that hundreds of firefighters remain in the area to stop fires re-igniting.

Regional government officials say between 50 and 60 homes were destroyed,according to an initial estimate issued Wednesday,with a further 150 seriously damaged.
