With vegetable prices crashing and agricultural production down to an all time low, the Opposition and NDA members took on Agriculture Minister Ajit Singh and his Ministry for ‘‘faulty functioning’’ in an unscheduled discussion in the Rajya Sabha today.
Indian National Lok Dal member Harendra Singh Mallik attacked the Ministry, calling it a ‘‘bundle of confusion’’. ‘‘A parliamentary committee should inquire into corruption charges levelled against the Ministry and subordinate bodies,’’ he said. Initiating the discussion, Samajwadi Party’s Rama Shankar Kaushik said farmers were suffering because there is ‘‘no coordination within the Ministry’’.
BJP member R.B.S. Verma, Congress’s A.R. Kidwai and others from TDP, AIADMK and DMK also took the Ministry to task.
