BJP on Tuesday vowed to ‘‘fight tooth and nail,’’ any compromise ‘‘on the nuclear sovereignty of India.’’ Party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad, when asked about the US attempt to impose a ban on nuclear tests by India in future, told reporters: ‘‘Our misgivings about the India-US nuclear deal are coming true.’’

Earlier this month, former PM Vajpayee had expressed the apprehension that India, by agreeing to US conditions, was going to pay a heavy price by closing its options on the size of credible minimum nuclear deterrent. India, he had stressed, ‘‘should retain the right to conduct nuclear tests if any other country, such as China and Pakistan, were to do so.’’
