CHANDIGARH, June 1: Water supply will remain at low pressure throughout the city, on Tuesday, owing to a snag at the Kajauli water works.
According to the chief engineer of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh, Puranjit Singh, the major reason for the disruption is power-cuts. He said there is a possibility of low pressure because of a six-hour power-cut at the Kajauli water works today. Puranjit Singh added that most of the pumping is done in the morning and if the department is able to maintain the required water level, there would be no problem.
The daily water requirement of the city is 95 million gallons, while the water actually being released is 57 million gallons. Already, there have been endless complaints of low water pressure in the city. Though the Mayor had announced steps to increase water supply, it is estimated that it will take another three to four years. Work is expected to begin on the fourth phase of the Kajauli water works, which would add about 20 million gallons.
