May 19: Around 300 Khatau Mill workers courted arrest today outside the bungalow of the state Labour Minister Sabeer Shaikh. They were agitating against the non-payment of one month’s salary by the mill management.

The workers were led by the leader of the Girni Kamgar Sangharsh Samiti Datta Iswalkar and Ahilya Rangnekar. The Esplanade Court ordered them to be released on personal bond. However, the workers displayed no desire to be released, said the police.

The workers have remained unpaid despite Chief Minister Manohar Joshi intervening and asking the mill’s directorial board to pay their outstanding salaries.
