Press Club to have website
Chandigarh Press Club would soon become the first Press Club in the country to have its own website. The IC Net and focus — two Chandigarh based companies in the Internet line have offered to set up the website for the Press Club. The website would be created by the third week of February. The offer was made by Piyush Gupta, director, IC Net and consultant PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry during a one day workshop “Exploring Internet” held here today.
Kansal re-elected Lok Shakti president
Ravi Parkash Kansal was unanimously elected as the state president of Lok Shakti party, in elections held here today. The election also elected Gugan Mal Garg as member of the Lok Shakti national Council.
Bansal felicitates sarpanches, panches n The newly-elected sarpacnhes and panches of various UT villages were felicitated by the former City MP and former CTCC chief Pawan Kumar Bansal, at a function organised in Sector 24 here today. Of the total 17 sarpanches of UT villages, 14 were present at today’s function, while 110 panches of village panchayats were also present, besides a number of former sarpanches, Zila Parishad members and senior Congress leaders.
Uniformity sought in anti-polybag policies
A Panel discussion on handling of plastic bags, in view of the various notifications issued by the Ministry of Environment and the governments of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and UT Administration, was organised by the Environment Society of India. The participants observed that there was no uniformity in the decision of various state governments in handling of plastics.
Criticised
Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee general secretaries O.P. Verma and Kamlesh have criticised the role of UT Home Secretary Anuradha Gupta in handling the engineering department cases. The Congress leaders said that she made the prosecution of former chief engineer K.K. Jerath a case of her personal enmity.
Which has led to confusion among the manufacturers and the consumers.
It was proposed during the discussion that the coloured bags should be completely banned and the industrialists should be given incentives for manufacturing alternative jute bags.
