All eyes in Hyderabad today were on the Manjeera guest house in the upmarket Begumpet locality. For, the state-owned guest house is now hosting the very men who have been trying for years to topple the state.
Leaders of the People’s War and Janashakthi, the two major Left wing extremist groups in Andhra Pradesh, arrived this morning for talks with the Andhra Pradesh government on October 15.
But PWG state secretary Ramakrishna alias Akkiraju Haragopal made it clear that they had not given up their long-term goal of achieving power through an armed struggle. He said dialogue with the state was intended to ‘‘temporarily solve some problems’’.
He told reporters that the Congress was ‘‘responsible for the present problems’’ but ‘‘we hope something positive emerges from the talks.’’
Ramakrishna and four other leaders reached Hyderabad, with 35 unarmed activists, from Guntur where they had addressed a meeting in memory of Naxal icon Charu Mazumdar.
