CHANDIGARH, Nov 25: On the call of the Action Committee of UT Employees and Workers, workers of the Horticulture department today sat in dharna in front of the department’s Sector 23 office here today.

Committee’s convenor Rakesh Kumar alleged that one of the employees of the department had died in a road accident a few days ago while he was "on duty". "But the authorities have failed to release the compensation and they are being indifferent and callous to the demand," he said. He added that the body of the deceased still lay in the PGI.

"This is not an isolated case and everytime we have to agitate to get our right," Kumar said.

The workers have threatened to intensify the agitation if the compensation was not released immediately.

However, an official of the department, when contacted, said the department hadn’t received certain documents like the FIR and the post mortem report. "Once the documents are received we shall forward the case to the Chief Engineer’s office," he said.
