
The equity market continued to attract the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) as they recorded net purchases of Rs 1,432.5 crore ($3,14.8 million) for the trading week ended December 26. Foreign funds were also active in debt market with net inflows of Rs 144.9 crore ($31.8 million) in the week. Mutual funds made net investments in equities of Rs 58.27 crore and of Rs 179.56 crore in debt market during the period under review, according to data available with Sebi. FIIs bought and sold equity instruments worth Rs 934.90 crore and Rs 317.40 crore respectively to net inflows of Rs 617.50 crore ($135.70 mn) on December 22. The foreign funds were net buyers in equities at Rs 307.50 crore ($67.6 mn), Rs 284.10 crore ($62.4 mn) on December 24 and 23
respectively.
In debt, they purchased instruments worth Rs 83.30 crore and sold bonds worth Rs 9.70 crore resulting in net investment of Rs 73.60 crore. MFs were net sellers in the equity market on December 23 with purchases and sales of Rs 256.68 crore and Rs 267.26 crore respectively. On the debt market Front, MFs were net buyers on two days. They recorded net purchases of Rs 143.72 crore and Rs 35.84 crore on December 22 and December 23 respectively. (PTI)
