Seventeen days after some women were allegedly molested when they were held hostage along with other bus passengers at a village in Dhantala, the victims have lodged a police complaint.
A senior officer, however, said from the point of investigation, an FIR against rape after so many days was difficult to prove. He said this is a sad commentary on the law and order situation in the state where a victim is scared to file a complaint. Police would now look for circumstantial evidence, he added. Sources said it is possible that some local voluntary organisation in Nadia persuaded these women to lodge complaints.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee visited Dhantala today and demanded a CBI inquiry. BJP leader Satyabrata Mukherjee had also visited the village yesterday.
