Several witnesses and accused in the ‘cash at judge’s door’ scandal were examined today by the three-judge committee, constituted by Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan to investigate the case.

The committee comprises Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Hemant Laxman Gokhale, Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice K S Radhakrishnan and Delhi High Court Justice Madan B Lokur.

The day started with Justice Nirmaljit Kaur recording her statement at the UT guesthouse. Her examination lasted for nearly two hours.

On August 13, Rs 15 lakh was “wrongly” delivered at her residence allegedly on the directions of former Additional Advocate General, Haryana, Sanjeev Bansal.

Later, the statements of Sanjeev Bansal and his wife were also recorded by the committee.

The statements of co-accused in the case — Rajiv Gupta, Nirmal Singh and Parkash Ram — and several witnesses, including advocate Pankaj Bhardwaj, ASP Madhur Verma and a few UT police officers who had earlier investigated the case, were also recorded.

The process of examination began at 9 am and continued till 5 pm.

On Tuesday, the committee will record the statements of Delhi-based hotelier Ravinder Singh and his wife.

Ravinder Singh’s counsel, meanwhile, moved an application demanding permission that his client’s examination be postponed.

“Ravinder is in CBI custody for the last ten days and is not mentally or physically fit to make a statement,” said advocate Y S Dhillon.

On the other hand, Bansal’s counsel has withdrawn a bail application filed in the court of special CBI judge Jagdeep Jain.
