Samajwadi Party (SP) Lok Sabha member from Agra and actor Raj Babbar today accused party general secretary Amar Singh of having fundamentalist inclination.

Babbar told reporters here on Saturday that he had protested Singh’s inclination towards fundamentalist forces to save the party. “I communicated public feelings to party leader Ram Gopal Yadav when he visited Agra recently,” he said further.

However, Yadav defended Singh. “No other leader mingles with people except Amar Singh; anyone popular among the masses is acceptable to the party,” he added.

Besides, he questioned Babbar’s popularity. “He cannot fetch a single vote. The SP gave Babbbar political identity by first nominating him to the Rajya Sabha, and then fielding him from Lucknow and Agra. If he has political identity, let him resign and recontest,” he added.

Later, Babbar told a TV channel that he would not like to re-name Singh as it would give him importance. “Whatever place he has got, has been bought from money of middlemen and brokers,” he added. About support of several Bollywood people to Singh, he said laughingly, “It is very unfortunate but what can be said.”

About the phone-tapping, he said, “Some said Amar Singh discussed about eliminating Mulayam Singh. I don’t know what is true and what is not.”

Babbar denied that he planned to leave the party.
