The windfall after he won an Olympic gold in shooting in the Beijing Games continued and Abhinav Bindra was on Saturday gifted a Rs 44-lakh Volvo sedan for his outstanding achievement.
Abhinav was presented the white-colour S-80 V8 executive model by Volvo India’s Managing Director, Paul de Voijs at a function in Chandigarh.
Speaking on the occasion, 25-year-old Abhinav said he was honoured by the gesture from Volvo.
Asked why Volvo had chosen Abhinav to gift the car, Paul de Voijs said, “It is purely a sporting gesture in recognition of what Abhinav has achieved.”
He clarified that this gesture did not mean that Volvo had made Abhinav its brand ambassador.
Abhinav won a gold in the Beijing Olympics in the 10 m air rifle event.
Abhinav’s father A S Bindra, who was also present at the function, was the first customer of Volvo in Punjab when he had purchased its XC 90 model.
