This Diwali, Lucknow has received exciting gifts from UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) — swanky AC and non-AC luxury buses for commuters that were launched in the city on an experimental basis on Sunday.
The blue and pink buses have low floors, making boarding and deboarding easy for commuters. Besides, they run on CNG, which makes them environment-friendly.
The fare of these buses is higher than regular buses plying on city roads. While the fare of AC buses is between Rs 10 and 30, that of non-AC buses is from Rs 5 to Rs 15, with an increment of Rs 5 after every 5 km.
Commuters can also get daily passes for Rs 500 for 10 km and Rs 750 exceeding the 10 km distance.
One AC and non-AC low-floor buses each will ply between Sarojini Nagar-Engineering College and Sarojini Nagar-Chinhat.
“We are not planning to replace the existing fleet of city buses. However, if we get a positive feedback, we will introduce more such buses in the state capital,” said RP Singh, General Manger (Operations), UPSRTC.
For the convenience of commuters, origin and destination of the buses will be displayed on the buses. “These buses have been designed keeping the city conditions in mind. An AC bus has the capacity to seat 100 people. This can help in reducing the traffic on the city roads by attracting private vehicle users to the new public transport system,” said Rishi Kapoor, Business Manager, Commercial Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors Limited.
With floor level of only 380 mm, the buses can also be boarded by physically challenged.
