Good morning,

Start your weekend with the top 5 stories from The Indian Express!

Amid speculations over the Centre’s Uniform Civil Code, the expert committee formed in Uttarakhand for the state’s UCC said that it’s all set to submit a draft of the proposed law along with its report by the end of July, which could be used as a template for the Centre’s UCC bill in the winter session of Parliament.

In the continuing saga of Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi, it has now emerged that he put on hold his unprecedented order dismissing arrested minister V Senthil Balaji after the state BJP unit raised an alarm, reportedly reaching out to the central leadership over the “blunder” and its “constitutional implications”.

At the latest edition of the Express Adda, life coach and motivational speaker Gaur Gopal Das was in conversation with Anant Goenka, Executive Director, The Indian Express, discussing a range of issues from the practice of specifying pronouns to liberalism to social media behaviours.

This week, Neerja Chowdhury dissects why UCC is back in focus: “Even during the Shah Bano controversy, a common argument was that while reforms in personal law were desirable, the demand should come from the community itself rather than being imposed on it by the courts or the government.”

Planning to watch Satyaprem Ki Katha? Read what Shubhra Gupta has to say about it: “Somewhere under the overwrought and overcooked plot of Kartik Aaryan-Kiara Advani-starrer is a real film about two people dealing with troubled pasts, but it gets buried under everything else that the movie throws at us.”

Until next time,
