Motifs and paintings not only help beautify homes but they can, according to experts, also bring good luck and positivity to your life. As such, when we came across a social media post by Lavinaa Shrishrimal, a numerologist, that suggested keeping a peacock idol in the house helps “bring success” in life, we wanted to know more. “Keep a peacock idol in your house, in the south direction. By doing this, you will welcome success in your life,” Shrishrimal wrote on Instagram.

So, what is the connection between a peacock idol or motif and success?

Vastu Acharya Manoj Shrivastava shared that in general, peacocks signify monsoon — something that brings “joy” to the face of all farmers — signifying celebrations. “Similarly, in vastu, peacocks signify beauty, grace, and good luck. Hence, placing peacock-related décor items or motifs in the house or workplace can bring positivity and great fortune,” Shrivastava told indianexpress.com.

Adding, Acharya Divvya Chhabra, Divyvastu, Alchemy Vastu Consulting shared that Lord Kartikeya, the God of war in Hinduism, is depicted to be riding a peacock as his vehicle (vahan). “In vastu, it is also considered to protect you from all evil and negative energies. Just like Lord Kartikeya, Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge, wisdom, and learning also rides on a peacock,” said Chhabra.

But what kind of motifs or figurines should one keep?

According to Chhabra, hanging a peacock painting in south direction of your house helps with flow of money. “People with financial issues should keep a peacock painting in their home and office,” she said, adding that hanging it in south-east zone helps build confidence. Additionally, picture of a couple of peacocks in a golden frame, placed in the south-west zone of the house, helps “strengthening bond between the couple”, she added.

Dancing peacock figurines should be placed in the north west direction of your workplace or home for progress in professional life, said Shrivastava. “You can also place it in the north of your workplace or home to invite more opportunities in life and business,” he said.

Chhabra added that when a peacock painting in a golden frame is hung in the west direction of the house or study room, it can improve one’s capacity to focus on studies. “It also helps improve a person’s artistic bent of mind such as in painting, dancing, music, etc,” she mentioned.

A silver peacock or a peacock with a jungle in the background, when put in north zone of the house, helps increase finances, Chhabra said.

What should be the ideal size of figurines?

The size of the figurine must be in accordance with the size of the room you want to place it in. “A six inch peacock statue in a 100 sq ft room will be the right size, but for a 500 sq ft room you will get the same results when the size is 18 inch peacock motif,” said Shrivastava.

How about peacock feathers?

Chhabra mentioned that feathers have the ability to regenerate when they are broken, which symbolically translates to learning along the way. “But you need to ensure that the feathers of peacock were collected without any violence, that they were naturally shed,” said Chhabra.
