Urvashi Rautela, who has won several beauty pageant titles, including Miss Teen India, Miss Tourism World in China, and Miss Asian Supermodel in South Korea, said she always wanted to compete in Miss Universe. “The target was always Miss Universe. So, the title of Miss Universe India came after years of hard work and persistence. Going for beauty pageants is like an athlete going for the Olympics because it is not just one day of hard work; years of hard work goes behind it,” the Sanam Re actor said in an interaction with Hindi Rush.
Adding that “the same kind of dedication and discipline” is needed to win at both events, she continued: “You just can’t do it like that. When it comes to pageants, you need to know what is happening all over the world, you need to know about global issues, you need to know all different kinds of catwalks, you need to know public speaking, and you need to be aware of every single issue. You have to be above 5′7, and it keeps changing every single year and depends on which contest you are going for.” Notably, Rautela, who won Miss Universe India in 2012, was asked to return her crown as she didn’t meet the age criteria. But she again won the title in 2015.
Taking a cue from her admission, let’s understand what goes behind prepping for a beauty pageant.
Prepping for beauty pageants is a grueling process, akin to an athlete’s training for the Olympics, concurred Aayushi Trivedi, cosmetologist, Lyoux cosmetics. “Contestants undergo a transformative journey, honing their physical, mental, and emotional prowess,” she said.
– Intensive workout regimens
– Customised nutrition and diet plans
– Regular skin and hair care treatments
– Confidence-building coaching and affirmations
– Interview preparation and rehearsals
– Mental toughness training to manage stress and pressure
Trivedi mentioned that various aspects align between both platforms.
– Dedication and discipline: Both require unwavering commitment and self-discipline.
– Customised training: Tailored regimens optimise performance and results.
– Pressure to perform: High stakes and intense scrutiny demand mental toughness.
To succeed, contestants must adopt an athlete’s mindset, combining physical, mental, and emotional training, said Trivedi.
– Time commitment: 6-12 months of intense preparation
– Financial investment: Significant costs for coaching, training, and pageant fees
– Emotional resilience: Coping with criticism, rejection, and pressure to perform
