Many celebrities and content creators attribute their success to creating visual cues on vision boards and following through on what they had planned to do to achieve their goal.
These include the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Ellen Degeneres, Lilly Singh, Jim Carrey, Will Smith, Beyoncé and Steve Harvey, among others. But, what exactly are vision boards?
Vision boards are a tool to help us remain focused and not deviate from the path of success. Also referred to as mood boards, vision boards are visual cues that help us picture ourselves working towards achieving our goals and dreams. They can comprise images, motivational quotes, or even cut-outs of our idols or people we look up to.
Sidhharrth S Kumaar, life coach at NumroVani says, “Vision board is a unique methodology that leverages the techniques of positive reinforcement of subconscious mind and clarity of conscious mind through visualisation.”
He further suggests that it helps a person achieve clarity of thoughts, align goals with the power of the subconscious mind, remain intrinsically motivated as well as assess progress, and set new targets.
Kumaar emphasises that a vision board “leverages the techniques of positive reinforcement of subconscious mind and clarity of conscious mind through visualisation”. He explains that the power of visualisation is key and helps in the following ways:
Visualisation helps to motivate by presenting a crystal clear and appealing vision of the desired objective. A vivid imagination of reaching your goals creates an emotional connection, boosting motivation.
Visualising actions and goals activate the brain’s Reticular Activating System (RAS), filtering and highlighting information and opportunities that match what an individual wants to achieve.
Visualising goal achievement reinforces the confidence of a person in their skills and abilities.
When visualisation of desirable outcomes can be done, the goal-related stress and anxiety automatically go away, fostering a tranquil mindset.
“Personally, I am a believer of ‘no one size fits all’ and this resonates in my intervention in this process,” Kumaar explains. He suggests the following strategies to ensure that the creation of vision board helps one achieve their goals in the most efficient way possible:
Colours are a beautiful way of nature which is ruled by specific energy vibrations and planets. “Curate colours to enhance overall reception of vision board and develop a strong emotional bond with the subconscious mind,” said Kumaar.
An individual should combine vision boards with switch words, affirmations, and healing numbers that resonate with them and enhance their overall impact.
Shapes and images are an integral part of any vision board. Leveraging the principles of sacred geometry, this works by incorporating shapes and images which is suited to the person as per their mind, body, and soul to enhance more acceptance.
Divide the vision board into multiple zones based on the principles of graphology and graphotherapy. After that, leverage the zone, the indent of writing, pressure, and other metrics to write down the goals, divide it into periodic time-bound checks as well as an action plan for the same.
