A Moscow-based school is teaching students how to protect themselves by using a selfie stick for self-defence.

Using the innocuous selfie stick for self-defence is a great way for women to protect themselves.

What do you use your selfie stick for? Well, don’t go ‘duh’, because they’re actually useful for a lot more than just taking selfies.

At a martial arts school in Moscow, Russia, students are taught to use these monopods to protect themselves from thieves and assailants by learning to use the selfie stick as a weapon.

“Actually fighting techniques using sticks, normal sticks, has been around for over a 1,000 years now. We’ve just adapted it to a contemporary stick, selfie sticks,” says Moscow-based martial arts trainer. The ‘new’ technique is already a trend, and is supposedly called ‘MPD fight’, or monopod fight.
