Shah Rukh Khan, often hailed as one of the most handsome actors globally, has now earned scientific recognition for his looks. Alongside Deepika Padukone on the most beautiful women list, SRK has been ranked among the top 10 most handsome male actors in a study led by renowned celebrity plastic surgeon Dr Julian De Silva. The study uses the ‘Greek Golden Ratio of Beauty Phi,’ an ancient mathematical formula used to measure facial symmetry and perfection.
Using advanced face-mapping technology, De Silva’s study evaluated how closely different actors’ facial features align with the Golden Ratio. Shah Rukh Khan secured the 10th spot, achieving an impressive facial symmetry score of 86.76%, making him the only Indian actor on the list. Similarly, Deepika Padukone ranked 9th in the top 10 of the world’s most beautiful women, scoring a remarkable 91.22%.
According to Dr Debraj Shome, Director and Senior Cosmetic Surgeon at The Esthetic Clinics, the golden ratio, approximately 1.618, is a mathematical formula used to assess facial attractiveness. When it comes to understanding how attractive the person is, many believe that facial proportions aligning with the golden ratio are appealing.
“The distance from the top of the nose to the center of the lips needs to be 1.618 times the distance from the center of the lips to the chin. When it comes to this ratio, it is believed that if the distance between one’s eyebrows is 1, then the entire length of an eyebrow has to be 1.618 to be able to categorise one as appealing,” Dr Shome explained in an interaction.
It is believed that facial features aligning with this ratio are perceived as aesthetically pleasing due to their visual balance. While these scientific assessments highlight ideal facial symmetry, Dr Shome emphasises that beauty is subjective, and not everyone needs to meet these specific proportions to be considered attractive. However, cosmetic procedures can also help enhance facial features to better align with the golden ratio if desired.
British actor Aaron Taylor Johnson topped the men’s list, with a facial symmetry of 93.04 per cent, while Jodie Comer of Killing Eve topped the women’s list with a score of 94.52 per cent.
