Indians truly love their snacks. And we proved it this New Year’s Eve.

While fireworks lit up the skies, India’s leading quick-commerce platforms—Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and BigBasket—were lighting up with orders. And let’s just say, what we bought last night says a lot about how we party!

Albinder Dhindsa, CEO of Blinkit, and Phani Kishan A, co-founder of Swiggy Instamart, delighted Twitter with live stats of what Indians were frantically ordering. Spoiler alert: it was a house-party extravaganza!

Snack attack

Chips and aloo bhujia ruled the night. Blinkit clocked a whopping 2.3 lakh packets of aloo bhujia out for delivery by 8 PM. Over on Swiggy Instamart, the chips craze peaked at 853 orders per minute. That’s a lot of crunching as we counted down to midnight!

Ice Ice Baby

If you thought parties were cooling off, think again. Ice cubes were an MVP. Blinkit delivered a staggering 6,834 packets of ice cubes at 8 PM, while Swiggy Instamart hit its ice-cool peak at 7:41 PM, with 119 kilograms of ice delivered in just one minute. BigBasket chimed in with a 1,290% spike in ice cube orders, clearly signaling that house parties were going strong.

Party Must-Haves

Disposable cups and plates flew off BigBasket shelves with a 325% surge, and non-alcoholic beverages saw a sales jump of 552%. Soda and mocktail mixes weren’t far behind, proving that even mocktails can get the party started.

Keeping It… Safe

As house parties turned up the heat, so did condom orders. Blinkit reported an impressive 1.2 lakh packs delivered, with chocolate-flavoured condoms stealing the show (39% of sales). Swiggy Instamart had already delivered 4,779 packs by the afternoon, and the numbers only climbed.

The Unexpected Hero

In a twist no one saw coming, Blinkit reported a surge in orders for men’s underwear. Yes, you read that right. Was it a New Year’s emergency wardrobe change, or are we stepping into 2025 with fresh vibes—quite literally?

As the clock struck midnight, it became clear: India’s New Year celebrations were equal parts cheeky, chaotic, and delicious. Thanks to the speedy delivery heroes, the country welcomed 2025 fully stocked, chilled, and prepared for various adventures.
