Over 62 per cent asthmatics don’t have asthma under control

Though there are many inexpensive treatment options in India,there implementation is lacking.

Despite adequate and cheap treatment options,over 62 per cent of asthmatics in India do not have asthma under control and over 80 per cent of asthmatics are on oral tablets.

“India has the cheapest anti-asthmatic therapy and is the largest asthmatic formulations in the world. But implementation of these treatment has been a problem here,” said Dr Prasanna Kumar Thomas,a consultant pulmonologist,at a function here.

Stating that environment is an uncontrollable entity,continuous medication alone can keep the disease under control,Thomas said.

Dr A Balachandran,another pulmonologist said that asthma was more common in urban spaces over rural areas due to congested living amidst dust.

According to a recent study,India has one third of the total asthmatics in the world.
