Mini Mathur who turns a year older today shared that she is all set to “reset” her body and mind and spend a different kind of birthday in the lap of nature.

“My next trip around the sun begins today. And I wanted to start it with Thanksgiving. To my body, that has allowed me to live a beautiful life… allowed me to jump into waterfalls, climb mountains, give birth, wear what I love, enjoy tequila and travel and taste a million flavours, smell potions… allowed me to feel joy till my heart bursts, to be able to cry with grief, hug my kids, friends and family,” shared the 48-year-old TV host and actor.

“It’s time to say thank you buddy…So yes…the next ten days will be dictated by what is best for my body. Naturopathy, following the circadian rhythm, fasting, yoga, therapy, and a raw organic diet. Just the reset I needed to be able to do a million things I want to do,” added Mini, whose vlog shows her enjoying some me-time at a wellness resort.

She also shared a glimpse of her bed and wrote, “The only cake I’m getting today is on my bed. On, not in.”

Taking a leaf out of Mini‘s time out with nature, we decided to explore more about naturopathy.

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is one of the most effective systems of alternative medicine. “It is based on the principle that it is possible to prevent and treat disease without drug intervention, using holistic techniques that take into consideration all factors affecting a patient instead of just treating the symptoms,” said Dr K Shanmugam, assistant chief medical officer, Jindal Naturecure Institute.

According to the expert, naturopaths understand the influence of physical, environmental, social, and psychological factors on the patient and prescribe lifestyle changes using a “well-researched combination of exercise, diet, natural remedies, and detoxifying methods”.

They integrate medical diagnostics with a wide range of natural therapies, added Dr Shanmugam. “Naturopaths can successfully pinpoint if a patient is predisposed to a particular medical condition. Their treatments include exercise therapy, diet therapy, education and counselling on lifestyle changes, hydrotherapy, and mind-body techniques such as meditation and yoga.”

Given that as we age, our body faces greater oxidative stress and free radical damage even as its ability to repair and replenish itself slows down, Dr Shanmugam said that it is essential to take preventive measures including dietary tweaks.

He recommended having vegetables, fruits, seeds, and nuts that are rich in nutrients and keep the immune system healthy. “Vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, and kale support good liver function, which is essential for natural detoxification,” said Dr Shanmugam.
