Scottish Whisky brand Cutty Sark launched in India

Excited Nitin says, “when Cutty Sark approached me to do with a limited edition for the launch of label in India, on the line of ‘Raise Your Bar’, I was very much clear in terms of concept and I knew that the collection needed to be highly rich in terms of visibility and high drama was required. It involved extensive research and physical visit to ships and studying the different parts of the ship to understand and try out the sections worth experimental in terms of fashion. So after that I decide to concentrate on the theme of ‘Steam Punk’ and it was then I had to source lots of material. He adds, “ I had to visit scrap market, bike market as to collect different machine parts that were worth use in the collection. ”

Talking about the collection, Nitin says, “the entire collection is inspired from Robert Bruns poem Tam o’ Shanter, where a witch is being chased and that’s how the ship is named ‘Cutty Sark’ which means a short skirt. So the flavor and feel of witch was to be there and that’s why I decided to keep the collection dark in color.”

After doing extensive research for months, Nitin finalized to concentrate on customized buttons, navigators, watch, anchor, studs birds wing and different parts of machines as accessories that were attached to high drama clothes. Nitin says, “ the detailing on the clothes were supposed to be heavy as metals were being used, so the fabrics used for the dresses needed to be heavy and so I zeroed down on high sports fabric, different types of rexines, sheep nappa leather and high performance net. He stresses, “the collection is inclined towards the men’s desire and a positivity is kept alive in the collection.

Nitin who is famous for this quirky and out of the box collection had to sync all the sourced material in a way on the fabric that the collection looked neat and perfectly tailored. Calling it a challenge to sync with theme, he stresses, “ the differnet parts of machine, bike, watches needd to be crafted ina way that it looked high in class and at thr same time the mdoels were able to move freely. Moreover it was suposoed to be neat and perfetly tailored.”

Crafted with minute detailing even the footwear for the collection was exclusively accessorized by Nitin and he says, “For the footwear I tried to experiment a bit more and the shoes have elements from the inside of watches. I opened the watches and the elements used inside were creatively attached to give the shoes an edge and make them in sync with the entire collection.

The show concluded with Kalki Koechlin as the show stopper in a white fish net detailed outfit extensively used on the dress and as head gear, all complemented with navigation inspired metallic buttons. Concluding about the showstopper look, Nitin affirmed, “the dress has more of net on body and head gear too, all painted in white to bring the positivity, as the entire collection was inspired from the witch of Robert’s poem. And I feel Kalki, who is famous for her unconventional identity as an actress carried the outfit effortlessly and I had to do no changes in the dress to suit her personality.”

On the launch of label, Managing Director, Kyndal Group, Siddharth Banerji said, “ Our motive is that Indian consumers get access to the original Cutty Sark in an exciting award winning pack and that’s the reason today we have organized a testing session too and for it, renowned master blender Kirsteen Campbell has been invited to make you walk the journey of selecting the perfect whisky with easy steps.” He added, the fashion show is all about celebrating the entry of the brand in the market and I feel Nitin is among those designers who are quite experimental just like the brand which believes in serving high quality experimental flavors to its drinkers across globe.”
