Methi parantha, a popular Indian flatbread enriched with fenugreek (methi) leaves, is a nutritious addition to one’s diet. Fenugreek is a rich source of soluble fibre, iron, and an array of essential vitamins, making it a valuable component for overall health. Apart from being a healthy one, it is a delightful addition too for your tastebuds. Even actor Kriti Sanon can’t get enough as she shared a glimpse and wrote, “Methi paratha + Amul butter”, my favourite”.
Methi paratha offers several health benefits:
Rich in nutrients: Methi is a good source of vitamins, minerals, and fibre, providing essential nutrients for overall health.
Blood sugar control: Fenugreek has been associated with potential benefits for managing blood sugar levels, making methi paratha a good choice for those with diabetes, said Dr Nirupama Rao, nutritionist, Rejua Energy Centre, Mumbai.
Digestive health: The fibre content in methi paratha promotes digestive health and helps prevent constipation.
Heart health: Methi is known to have potential heart health benefits, including helping to lower cholesterol levels.
Anti-inflammatory properties: Fenugreek may contribute to reducing inflammation in the body, said Dr Rao.
Iron boost: Iron is a vital mineral for the formation of red blood cells and the prevention of anemia. “Methi parantha, with its fenugreek content, can be particularly beneficial for individuals seeking to enhance their iron intake naturally,” said Roopa Soni, nutritionist, and founder – Soulfit Cloud Kitchen, Dehradun.
It’s essential to moderate your butter intake due to its calorie and fat content. “A moderate amount, such as a thin spread or a small pat of butter, can enhance the flavour without adding excessive calories. It’s advisable to consider your overall dietary needs and goals while enjoying methi paratha with butter,” said Dr Rao. Concurred Roopa and shared, “While butter provides flavour and healthy fats, excessive intake can contribute to increased calorie consumption“.
According to Roopa, enjoying methi parathas, especially during breakfast, can be a strategic choice for maintaining satiety throughout the day.
“The combination of fibre from fenugreek and the complex carbohydrates in the paratha provides a sustained release of energy. This not only keeps you full for an extended period but also helps stave off mid-morning hunger pangs, promoting a more balanced and controlled approach to eating,” said Roopa.
