Anshula Kapoor loves trying out tantalising dishes. In fact, she often shares glimpses of some of her meals with her fans and followers. As such, she is also someone who is looking to try out new recipes in her kitchen. In the same vein, Anshula recently shared a glimpse of kala chana or black chickpeas chaat on her Instagram Stories.

For those looking to recreate her simple snack, she also shared the recipe for the snack that can be prepared in a jiffy.

How to make kala chana chaat?

Ingredients

Kala chana or black chickpeas, 1 cup
Indian masalas like cumin, asafoetida, black pepper powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and Kasuri Methi
Ginger garlic paste
Curry leaves
Chopped capsicum, potato, tomatoes, coriander leaves

Method

*Take overnight soaked and pressure-cooked kala chana.
*Toss it on the pan with cumin, asafoetida, curry leaves, black pepper powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, ginger, garlic, and Kasuri Methi to make it ‘chatpata’. Add salt.
*Let it cool.
*Add capsicum, potato, tomatoes, coriander, lemon juice, and chat masala. Mix together.

“Would have added some pomegranate for some sweetness but didn’t have at home,” she shared.

Ankita Kapoor, health and wellness coach, Delhi called kala chana a highly nutrient-rich legume. “Kala chana is packed with essential nutrients such as protein, dietary fibre, vitamins (including vitamin A, C, and E), minerals (iron, calcium, potassium), and antioxidants. This nutrient density supports optimal bodily functions and promotes overall health,” said Kapoor.

It also has vitamins like B6, C, folate, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin and minerals including manganese, phosphorus, iron, and copper.

As a good source of dietary fibre, kala chana helps aid digestion, regulate bowel movements, and promote a healthy gut. “The fibre content also helps maintain a feeling of fullness, which can assist in managing weight,” Kapoor mentioned, adding that the combination of protein, fibre, and low-calorie content helps promote satiety, control cravings, and manage portion sizes.

According to Kapoor, kala chana is a heart-friendly food. “It contains high amounts of soluble fibre, which can help reduce cholesterol levels and lower the risk of heart disease,” she concluded.
