Mumbai is a city of culinary legends, and among its most cherished eateries are Swati Snacks and Shree Thaker Bhojanalay. These two establishments have been serving authentic, flavourful Gujarati and Rajasthani food for decades, making them landmarks in the city’s food culture.

However, in a surprising revelation to Chef Suvir Saran for an interview on Screen, Aaditya Thackeray, one of India’s youngest politicians from Mumbai, has never visited either of these iconic spots. Despite his deep love for Mumbai’s street food, these famous restaurants have somehow remained off his list.

“I’ve eaten from these places at friends’ houses but never actually had a chance to pay a visit to either of them,” Thackeray shared. The politician, in another segment, told Saran he actually loves the Bhaji Pao and Vada Pao at Vasaikar.

While his preference leans toward Maharashtrian flavours, the historical significance of Swati Snacks and Shree Thaker Bhojanalay continues to draw food lovers from across the world.

The legacy of Swati Snacks

Swati Snacks was established in Tardeo in the 1960s as a modest eatery serving homemade-style vegetarian dishes. Over the decades, it has evolved into one of Mumbai’s most beloved casual dining spots, known for its innovative yet authentic approach to Gujarati and Rajasthani cuisine.

One of the defining aspects of Swati Snacks is its ability to modernise traditional dishes while preserving their essence. Some of its signature dishes include:

Despite its growth and popularity, Swati Snacks has maintained its homely charm and commitment to quality. Its success has even led to expansion beyond Mumbai, with an outlet in Ahmedabad. The restaurant continues to attract Bollywood celebrities, business tycoons, and food connoisseurs, all eager to experience its comforting flavors.
