It needs no retelling that Shilpa Shetty is a fitness enthusiast, one who loves to share snippets of her workouts with her fans and followers on social media. In keeping with the same, the 47-year-old recently served some fun workout inspiration that does not require you to hit the gym — but to dance your heart out, in the comfort of your home. Sharing a video, the actor wrote: “Some good music and lot of dancing — one of the best ways to start my week.”

Sharing how dancing is good for health, Shilpa added, “Aerobics dance is a cardiovascular exercise, which is a lot of fun as well. It conditions your heart and lungs, and burns fat when performed for 20 minutes and more.”

She further added that dancing is not only good for your body but also your mind as it requires you to coordinate your steps. “This type of aerobic activity burns fat efficiently as you have to move your arms and legs in coordination, for which the brain has to work too. More muscles involved means more calories burnt,” she wrote.

What are aerobic exercises?

Aerobic exercise is any form of physical activity that increases the heart and breathing rate for an extended period of time. It is also known as cardio exercise or cardiovascular exercise. Speaking with indianexpress.com, Utsav Agrawal, an advance personal trainer and certified nutrition and fitness consultant from INFS said, “Aerobic exercise is designed to improve your overall health and fitness by increasing your endurance and strengthening your heart and lungs”.

Some common examples of aerobic exercises include jogging, cycling, swimming, dancing, and brisk walking. These exercises involve using large muscle groups in a rhythmic and continuous manner and can be performed at various intensity levels to suit your fitness level and goals.

Health benefits of Aerobic exercises

Below are numerous health benefits of aerobic exercises, as shared by Agarwal.

1. Improved cardiovascular health: Aerobic exercise strengthens the heart and lungs, improving efficiency and reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure.

2. Increased endurance and stamina: Regular aerobic exercise can increase your overall endurance and stamina, making everyday activities easier and reducing fatigue

3. Improved mental health: Aerobic exercise releases endorphins, which can improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression

Things to keep in mind

*Warm-up and cool down: Before starting your workout, spend a few minutes warming up with light activity, such as walking or stretching. Similarly, after your workout, take a few minutes to cool down and stretch to help prevent injury and reduce muscle soreness.

*Start slowly: If you are new to aerobic exercise, start slowly and gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts over time. This will help prevent injury and reduce the risk of overexertion

*Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workout to prevent dehydration

*Listen to your body: If you experience pain, dizziness, or other symptoms during your workout, slow down or stop and seek medical attention if necessary
