Meghalaya has initiated a Concert Economy model that utilises festivals to empower its people. According to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, “The government aims to establish a year-round festival scene, with every district participating. Sustainable practices, such as zero-waste efforts, sourcing tribal foods, and reserving 30% of the spots for local artisans and home kitchens, are key to this vision. A Concert Impact Tracker is also in development to measure real-time job creation and economic outcomes.”
Besides the Cherry Blossom Festival, major events like Me’Gong, Winter Tales, and the Shillong Literary Festival brought in almost 3.86 lakh visitors in 2024. These festivals have made the state one of India’s top spots for festival tourism.
