A 30-year-old woman from Sehore in Madhya Pradesh alleged that her relatives beat her up for “voting for the ruling BJP and celebrating its victory”.
Following the incident, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reached out to the woman, Samina, and invited her to his official residence. On Saturday, the woman, Samina, and her children visited Chouhan in Bhopal, as per the Chief Minister’s Office. Sehore is the home district of CM Chouhan.
According to the police, Samina in her complaint alleged that she was thrashed by her brother-in-law on December 4. Speaking to reporters, the woman said, “I said I voted for the BJP, that’s why they won. He asked me why I voted for the BJP and later beat me up me with a wooden stick.” Samina said she voted for the BJP because “its policies benefited her”.
The police have registered a case against the accused brother-in-law under Sections 294 (obscene acts and songs), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
Chouhan, who was addressing a rally in Bhopal as part of his Mission 29 campaign for 2024 Lok Sabha polls, said, “A sister came to me… she had voted for BJP… There was a little fight… so I said sister, come to CM House. Your brother is alive. No need to worry.”
Later, Chouhan assured her of financial help in a post on X. “The case of one of my sisters being harassed by her family for voting for BJP for a strong democracy has come to my notice. I have directed the officials to take appropriate action in this regard. Along with this, the victim sister will also be given complete security and financial help. My sister, don’t worry about anything, your brother is always with you,” Chouhan wrote.
After her meeting with the CM, Samina said, “I have met the CM. Brother (CM) has said he will worry about my children and family. That’s why I will vote for BJP in future too.”
