TARGETING RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said a committee would be set up to probe the cases of land-grabbing and recommend strict action, and warned that they would “hang the land mafia upside down”.

Addressing a public meeting in Paliganj, about 50 km from Patna, organised by the BJP OBC Morcha, Shah launched a direct attack on Lalu. “Woh ek hi kaam kar sakte hain — OBC aur EBC ki bhumi hathiya sakte hain. Magar is manch se mai aaj RJD aur Lalu ko chetavani de raha hoon. Double engine ki sarkar aa gayi hai jo bhu-mafia ko ulta latka ke sidha karne ka kaam sarmar karegi (He can only do one thing — grab land belonging to OBC and EBC. But let me announce from this stage that now that the double-engine government is back, we will hang the land mafia upside down and set them straight),” he said.

“A committee will be set up by the new NDA government to look into all cases of land grabbing and recommend stern action,” said Shah, who was on his first tour of Bihar since the BJP returned to power in the state, following the return of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to the NDA.

Lalu and his family members are facing a probe in the alleged land-for-jobs case, which pertains to Group-D appointments made in the West Central Railway Zone in Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) when he was the Railways Minister, from 2004 to 2009, allegedly in return for land parcels transferred to his family and associates.

“It was PM Narendra Modi who bestowed the Bharat Ratna to (former CM) Karpoori Thakur, not the Congress or the RJD. The Congress only bestowed honour to their families, and Lalu only worked for his family. Sonia’s goal is to make Rahul Gandhi the PM, and Lalu’s goal is to make his son (Tejashwi Prasad Yadav) the CM. Such people cannot work for the well-being of OBCs, EBCs and Dalits,” he said.

“Narendra Modi has now been CM and PM for the last 23 years. But nobody, not even the Opposition, can accuse him of corruption,” he said.

Shah said the Congress had not given constitutional validity to the National OBC Commission, and did not provide reservation for OBCs in central government institutions. “Our 84 MPs had supported the government of V P Singh, who implemented the recommendations of the Mandal Commission. Rajiv Gandhi had given a two-hour-long speech, vociferously opposing quotas for OBCs,” he said. “Lalu Prasad had stopped L K Advani’s rath yatra. Laluji, what can you do now? Modi has done the bhoomi pujan for Ram temple and inaugurated it too,” he said.
