The Rajya Sabha was adjourned within two minutes of convening for the day on Thursday as both the Treasury and Opposition benches continued disrupting proceedings, as has been the case all week.

As the Upper House convened at 11 am, BJP MPs kept up their demand for an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks on India made overseas. Trinamool Congress MPs were in the Well of the House, with their mouths gagged with a piece of cloth as a mark of protest. Aam Aadmi Party’s Sanjay Singh was also seen in the Well, while Congress MPs stood at their seats and protested.

With both sides continuing to disrupt the proceedings, at 11.02 am, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the proceedings until 2 pm.

The situation remained the same after the House re-assembled for the afternoon session, with several MPs already in the Well of the House. Deputy Chairman Harivansh asked the members to return to their seats and allow the proceedings to continue. But with the members continuing to protest, he adjourned the House for the day at 2.01 pm.
