The police team accompanying Sherpuria reached Ahmedabad on Sunday evening.

VM Desai, inspector at the Anand Nagar police station in Ahmedabad, said the UP cops brought Rai and took assistance of the local police for taking the accused to a residential unit in the Prahladnagar area of the city.

A diary entry recording Sherpuria’s visit to the Anand Nagar police station was made at 8:45pm on Sunday, it is learnt. The alleged conman was taken to Riviera 11 Bungalows but the team had to return empty-handed after no one was found there, sources said.

Meanwhile, Sherpuria’s counsel Digvijay Singh has filed a petition in a Lucknow court, citing a court order that a lawyer of the accused will be present with him even as from a distance during the police custody.

But on the intervening night of May 5 and 6, the police took the alleged conman to an undisclosed location without informing them, the lawyer said.

He expressed apprehension that the police are likely to show false recovery from his client’s possession and put pressure on him to confess to crimes he never committed.

Besides, Other officers were also interrogating his client despite the fact that the custody was sought only by the investigating officer, he alleged.

On Friday (May 5) afternoon, the alleged conman was taken to UP Police’s Special Task Force (STF) office for questioning and was brought back to Lucknow’s Vibhuti Khand police station two days later.
