Amid the ongoing protests by retired employees of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) over pension dues, Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy Thursday said the state has no responsibility towards retired employees of the tribal council.

“No retired employee is deprived of pension under the state government. Our state government works following some specific rules, certain specific laws. If they (TTAADC authorities) are alleging that pensions are not being given, were the records of those employees given to the state government? If employment is given by them (the TTAADC administration run by BJP ally Tipra Motha), then it is their matter. The state government has no responsibility in this case,” Singha Roy told reporters in Agartala.

“It is not clear to us which employees they are talking about and who appointed them. This should be made clear,” he added.

Singha Roy’s response came in the wake of the TTAADC Pensioners Association holding a protest, claiming that 396 retired personnel were not receiving their pensions.

The TTAADC authorities have recently complained about a severe funding crisis and alleged that sufficient funds were not being provided by the state government.

The TTAADC has several employees who are sent by the state government on deputation; besides, the tribal council also hires workers on its own.
