The Trinamool Congress (TMC) Sunday declared its full list of candidates for West Bengal’s 42 Lok Sabha seats at a rally on Brigade Ground in Kolkata. The list, announced by TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, includes prominent faces – Abhishek Banerjee contesting from Diamond Harbour and former MP Mahua Moitra fielded from Krishnanagar – and springs a few surprises, like cricketer Yousuf Pathan. Contesting from Baharampur, Pathan will face West Bengal Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in the polls.

Actor Shatrughan Sinha has again been nominated from the Asansol seat. Meanwhile, former MP Haji Nurul Islam replaces actor Nusrat Jahan from the Basirhat seat, which includes the conflict-ridden Sandeshkhali village.

Standing MPs Sougata Roy and Sudip Bandopahdyay, at the centre of the ‘age versus youth’ controversy, have also been given tickets, with the former fielded from Dumdum while the latter from Kolkata Uttar seat. The TMC had, in the last week of February, confirmed that the party will be going solo in West Bengal in the upcoming polls.
