Bollywood actor Parineeti Chopra and Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha got engaged in a ceremony at Kapurthala House in the national capital on Saturday.
Three Chief Ministers, including Punjab’s Bhagwant Mann, Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal and Meghalaya’s Conrad Sangma, were among those who attended the ceremony.
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh was also among the guests, and was seen standing next to the couple during the ardas performed at the venue.
Cabinet ministers from Punjab, though, were missing from the ceremony, with sources saying they were busy in Jalandhar after the bypoll results.
“We could not have left the workers, who worked tirelessly for over a month, alone. They are the ones who ensured the party’s victory in Jalandhar Lok Sabha byelection. That is why we did not go,” a Cabinet minister told The Indian Express.
Mann’s wife Dr Gurpreet Kaur and Kejriwal’s wife Sunita also showed up at the ceremony.
Parineeti’s sister, actor Priyanka Chopra, and brother Sidharth Chopra were also
there. From the political circles, Kapil Sibal, P Chidambaram, Abhishek Singhvi, Sanjay Singh, and Rajiv Shukla and his wife Anuradha Prasad took out time to attend the engagement, as did singer Mika Singh and fashion designer Manish Malhotra.
Parineeti and Raghav posted several pictures on Instagram to announce the news. This is the first time that either has acknowledged the relationship publicly. “Everything I prayed for… I said yes!,” she wrote in the caption.
Both Parineeti and Raghav wore white, and one of the photos they shared was a close-up of their hands, intertwined.
Staff were not allowed to carry mobile phones at the venue.
The couple had sparked dating rumors after they were photographed outside a few restaurants in Mumbai. While they did not make any statements about their relationship, they were also clicked in Mohali attending an IPL match.
