Goa Police Tuesday arrested three people for smuggling over 4.3 kg of cocaine concealed in wafer and coffee packets. Police said the seizure was one of the ‘biggest’ for the contraband in terms of value in the state.

Police acted on a tip-off that said the accused were delivering a consignment of narcotics, following which a crime branch team conducted a raid near Chicolna bus stand in Mormugao and apprehended the trio. The accused were identified as Manguesh Wadekar, his wife Reshma — both natives of Mormugao’s Sada – and Nibu Vincent, a resident of Baina in Vasco.

Rahul Gupta, SP crime, Goa, said the accused concealed the narcotics in 32 packets of wafers and coffee. “Investigation so far has revealed that Reshma procured the consignment from someone; and the plan was to sell it in Goa. The drugs are suspected to have been brought from abroad,” the SP said.

Reshma had recently travelled to Thailand and police suspect that the cocaine was sourced from there.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant praised Goa police for “commendable efforts and swift action in the biggest ever drug bust in the state”.
