After early onset of summer and weeks of rising temperatures, heavy rainfall in Patna offered a welcome respite Thursday afternoon. The city saw a steady downpour accompanied by gusty winds for two hours starting at 3 pm.
According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna recorded 42.6 mm of rainfall on April 10 from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. The rain helped dispel some heat, with the maximum dipping to 32.2 degrees Celsius — a decrease of 2.6 degrees from the previous day. The relative humidity was measured at 87 percent at 5:30 pm, while the minimum recorded temperature was 24.2 degrees Celsius.
The agency predicts a cloudy sky with the possibility of rain, thunderstorms, or dust storms until April 14, with temperatures ranging between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius during this time. Temperatures are expected to rise again starting April 15.
Earlier Thursday morning, the IMD reported a low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal, associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to the mid-tropospheric level. It had expected it to move north-north-eastward over the next 12 hours and gradually weaken over the central Bay of Bengal.
