Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday received members of a Sikh delegation which submitted recommendations for the safekeeping and display of the holy ‘Jore Sahib’ of Guru Gobind Singh and Mata Sahib Kaur.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri led the delegation. His family has acted as the custodian of the holy relics for over three centuries. The Jore Sahib are two pieces of footwear, each belonging to the last Sikh Guru and his wife.
The PM said the holy relics are significant and spiritually important. He said they are a part of the glorious Sikh history and of the cultural ethos of the country.
“The holy relics will inspire the future generations to follow the path of courage, righteousness, justice and social harmony shown by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji,” Modi said.
Puri said in a post on X: “The Puri family has been immensely blessed and fortunate to perform seva of these holy relics from the time these were bestowed upon our ancestors by Guru Sahib and Mata Ji themselves more than 300 years ago.”
“Our ancestor had the great divine blessing to be in the direct service of Dasam Pita. Legend has it that pleased with his seva, Guru Maharaj commanded him to ask for any reward in return. Our ancestor requested Guru Sahib to kindly grant him his divine permission to keep the sacred ‘Jore Sahib’ so that the direct blessings of Guru Sahib and Mata Ji continue in his family and their generations to follow,” he also said.
Puri said the relics were examined by the Ministry of Culture and carbon testing has also been done to establish their authenticity. “Members of the committee have made their recommendations…,” he said.
