Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee alleged on Thursday that the Left Front in West Bengal was responsible for “growing attacks” against the opposition and said the Front government has no moral right to continue.
“State-sponsored terrorism is continuing in West Bengal. ….There have been growing attacks on the opposition there. The Left Front government does not have the moral right to continue,” Banerjee,who had a meeting with Union Ministers Pranab Mukherjee and P Chidambaram on the situation in some parts of the state,told reporters in New Delhi.
Chidambaram said he had been briefed about the situation in the affected areas. “We have sent a message to the state government and asked them to send a report. Let the report come,” he said,adding that the Home Secretary had spoken to the state Chief Secretary. “It is a continuous process”.
Five Congress leaders visiting Mangalkot area of Burdwan district were injured after they were allegedly attacked by CPI(M) activists. They were going there following reports that around 100 houses were burnt down by alleged CPI(M) cadres after one of their senior leaders Falguni Mukherjee was killed.
Later,the Railway Minister said “we complained about state-sponsored terrorism in West Bengal. I had sent my team from Trinamool Congress under the leadership of (Lok Sabha leader) Sudip Bandhopadyay (earlier). It was not allowed to enter the area.”
