Over 6,000 units were established under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) providing jobs to around 60,000 people in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Since the inception of PMEGP scheme,around 6,079 units were established providing employment to around 60,000 persons of Jammu and Kashmir,” member of Khadi and Village Industries Commission(KVIC),North Zone,Desh Raj Gautam said.
In a statement issued yesterday,he said that KVIC had established 1,677 units under PMEGP,which was launched on August 15,2008,providing employment to around 14,000 persons during the current financial year and involving subsidy to the tune of Rs 31 crores.
Under KVIC’s work shed scheme,693 work sheds had been built at a cost of 1.73 crores for poor artisans,which include spinners and weavers,of the state.
Funds under the scheme have been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 45,000,he said.
