Amarnath yatra resumes from Jammu,1,860 pilgrims leave today

Amarnath yatra resumed on Friday,after it remained suspended for three days due to inclement weather,with a batch of 1,860 pilgrims leaving from here for their onward journey to the cave shrine in south Kashmir.

Amarnath yatra resumed on Friday,after it remained suspended for three days due to inclement weather,with a batch of 1,860 pilgrims leaving from here for their onward journey to the cave shrine in south Kashmir.

Batch comprising 1,139 pilgrims,including sadhus,619 women and 102 children,left in a fleet of 54 vehicles from the base camp at Bhagwati Nagar here at around 05:00 hours,officials said.

The cavalcade of vehicles was escorted by security personnel,they said,adding that they had crossed Batote and were expected to reach Baltal by evening.

The yatra had commenced on June 15 with a batch of 900 pilgrims. It,however,was suspended for the last three consecutive days due to bad weather in the Kashmir valley.

Currently,the authorities are allowing to visit the shrine through Baltal route as the other route from Pahalgam has not yet been fully cleared of snow.
