Now, one big question making the rounds in the state’s political circles is, will Raje, the party’s tallest leader in the state, become the Chief Minister again. Before the election results, the 70 year-old-old two-time CM Raje visited several temples over a few days, including the Mehandipur Balaji temple in Dausa and the Moti Doongari temple in Jaipur. Significantly, the BJP did not project any CM candidate during its campaign for the Rajasthan elections, with Raje not given the lead role in steering it.
In the state, known for its three-decade-old history of ousting the ruling party, the Congress party had hoped to retain power, banking on the popularity of the incumbent Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s government welfare schemes. On the other hand, the BJP relied on the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ascend to power. PM Modi came down heavily on the ruling Congress, addressing concerns over law and order in the state, including the murder of a tailor in Udaipur, Kanhaiya Lal, and crimes against women.
