Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case Update: The Meghalaya Police is stepping up its investigation into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, with a team reaching Indore on Wednesday to question the family of his accused wife Sonam Raghuvanshi.

Three officers visited Sonam’s home, speaking with her mother and brother. This visit followed a stop at Raja’s family home in the city a day earlier by the same police team.

Sonam’s brother, Govind, said: “We have already told the police the truth. If the Meghalaya police have any suspicions, they are free to investigate us. I am with my family, visiting them, and I stand with their demand for a narco test. I was called to Shillong for questioning, but there has been no follow-up from the police.”

In the evening, the police team also inspected the flat of main accused Raj Kushwaha.

The Meghalaya Police officials also inspected a flat in the city’s Dewas Naka area, where Sonam allegedly stayed secretly for some days after returning to Indore following Raja’s murder. Sources said officers found little of significance in the near vacant flat, which contained only a few utensils.

Earlier, the police team visited Raja’s home, speaking to his mother, Uma, and brothers, Sachin and Vipin Raghuvanshi. The six accused in the case were not brought to Indore by the Meghalaya Police.

The team went to Raja’s family home in Sahakarnagar, recording statements from relatives about Sonam’s behavior and her stay after the wedding. Raja’s elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, confirmed the visit: “A three-member team of Meghalaya police came to our house. They were there for half an hour and asked us about Sonam’s behavior. They also asked us how long she stayed with us after the wedding.”

According to the police, Raja was first struck with a machete, locally called ‘dao’, by Vishal Singh Chauhan, one of three hitmen hired for the crime. Sonam was allegedly present at the time and fled the scene when her husband began to bleed and scream, returning only after he had died from the multiple blows inflicted upon him.

The three attackers, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi, were allegedly recruited by Sonam’s alleged boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha. The murder took place in a secluded area near the Wei Sawdong Falls, chosen specifically because of its remoteness and the lack of witnesses. The second machete was discovered in the same gorge where Raja’s body was dumped. A white shirt, believed to belong to Akash Rajput and worn during the murder, was also found in the gorge.
