A day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a chargesheet against businessman Robert Vadra in a money laundering case linked to a Gurgaon land deal, the BJP on Friday attacked Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, accusing him of being aware of the alleged irregularities in his brother-in-law’s dealings.
The development came on a day when Rahul expressed solidarity with Vadra and his sister, Priyanka, terming the ED chargesheet part of a witch hunt.
BJP national spokesperson Tuhin Sinha alleged that Rahul’s open support for Vadra indicated that he may have been involved in the alleged scam perpetrated by Vadra himself.
“Today, one thing has become clear: either Rahul Gandhi had full knowledge of Robert Vadra’s dark deeds, or it’s possible that he was completely involved in them…they seem to be partners in all this one-two-ka-four, four-two-ka-one,” Sinha alleged, taking on the Rae Bareli MP and citing charges against him in the National Herald case.
Accusing the senior Congress leader and his party of being “unable to move beyond the Emergency mindset”, Sinha also took on Rahul for having allegedly “threatened” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with arrest.
“The day before yesterday, Rahul Gandhi threatened Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma ji in a way, saying that you will be arrested, you will be arrested soon. They are unable to move beyond the Congress’s Emergency mindset. In 1975, the way they used to put people behind bars, they are still imagining the same today,” he alleged.
