Congress will win Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and a united Opposition will defeat the BJP, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in Bihar’s Patna on Friday, ahead of the first joint meeting of 18-odd Opposition parties in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Rahul said the BJP had been making tall claims before the Karnataka Assembly polls but it was the Congress which won the elections. “Similarly, Congress will win Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan,” he said, addressing party workers at Sadakat Ashram, the Congress headquarters in Bihar.

Rahul began his speech by asking, “Aapka mood kaisa hai? (How is your mood)?” After getting a warm response from the crowd, he said, “Opposition parties have converged in Bihar. Together, we can defeat the BJP.”

Rahul also accused the BJP of indulging in “politics of hate”. “Nafrat ko nafrat se nahi jeeta ja sakta (hatred cannot be won over by hatred),” the former AICC president said.

Addressing Congress party workers as “babbar sher”, Rahul said that wherever he went during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, he found a lot of people from Bihar. “Congress’s DNA is in Bihar,” he said.

Rahul was accompanied by All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge. “Hum agar Bihar jeet jayenge, sara Hindustan jeet jayenge (If we can win Bihar, we can win India),” Kharge said.

Top Opposition leaders from across the country are set to attend the meeting in Patna and are expected to unveil a common action plan to take on the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
